Midshipmen Development Center

Resources

All members of the US Naval Academy, including Midshipmen, faculty, and staff, can serve as resources to each other and help to identify and support Midshipmen who may be encountering difficulty. Faculty, company staff, and coaches and athletic trainers often serve as the front line of mental health in their ability to recognize distressed students and persuade them to utilize the helping resources available.

Often students are undergoing difficulties related to the transition and adjustment to USNA. In other cases, however, students may experience a less predictable crisis that challenges their capacity for coping effectively. These crises include the death of family members or friends, dissolution of important relationships, or significant shifts in plans for their future. The following pages have helpful information. We encourage you to recommend the Self-Help Tools, Sleep Hygiene for Warrior Recovery, and/or Coping with Dark Ages for midshipmen to help build and sustain resilience, review the Helping Midshipmen in Distress section to recognize warning signs and make appropriate referrals, bookmark the Critical Incidents page for future reference, and explore the Additional Resources page for both on- and off-Yard support options.

Remember, if you have any doubts or concerns about a Midshipmen's safety or well-being, you are always welcome to consult with an MDC staffer by calling MDC at 410-293-4897.
