Major Michael P. Magyar
Major Michael P. Magyar enlisted in the Navy in June 2004 and reported to Recruit Training, Great Lakes, IL. Upon graduation, he attended Hospital Corpsman A School, Great Lakes, IL and then reported for duty at the Brigade Medical Unit, United States Naval Academy. In August 2005, he reported to Hospital Corpsman C School, Field Medical Service School-East in Camp Lejeune, NC.
Upon graduation, he served as part of the Field Medical Service School staff until executing orders to the Naval Academy Admissions Office. He served as the Assistant Fleet Coordinator until executing orders to the Naval Academy Preparatory School, reporting in June 2006. Upon graduation in May 2007, he reported to the United States Naval Academy and graduated in May 2011. Following graduation, he served as the Assistant Fleet Coordinator, Naval Academy Admissions Office.
In August 2011, he reported to The Basic School, Quantico, VA. Major Magyar graduated from The Basic School in February 2012 and reported to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton, CA. Following OJT, he reported to Marine Artillery Detachment, Fort Sill, OK to attend the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course (FAOBC).
Upon graduation from FAOBC in September 2012, he returned to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines. In July 2013, he deployed to Southern Helmand Province, Afghanistan as the 3rd Platoon, Battery Q Fire Direction Officer, in support of OEF 13.2. Upon returning from deployment, he held billets as Battery Q Platoon Commander and Headquarters Battery Executive Officer.
In June 2015, Major Magyar reported to the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab, Quantico VA where he served as a Project Officer, Field Testing Branch, Experiment Division. During this time, he supported service level experimentation efforts: Expeditionary Force-21 LOE1, Direct Support Artillery LOE, RIMPAC 16, MAGTF Integrated Experiment 16, Sea Dragon 2025 Phase I and II, Balikatan 16, Valiant Shield 16, Northern Edge 17, and Dawn Blitz 17.
In August 2018, Major Magyar attended resident Expeditionary Warfare School, Quantico, VA and was selected as the 2019 LtGen John A. Lejeune, Professional Writing Award Winner. Upon graduation, he received orders to Officer Candidates School and served as an Academics Instructor for the 2019 summer cycle. Upon completion, he received orders to 1st Battalion, 10th Marines and reported in September 2019.
From September 2019 to May 2020, he served as the V12 Battalion Fire Support Officer. In May 2020, Major Magyar assumed command of Battery C, 1st Battalion, 10th Marines.
From August 2020 to February 2021, he deployed to Okinawa Japan as the East Battery, Battery Commander. Upon return from deployment he supported multiple service and division level fire’s exercises until relinquishing command in 2021.
In June 2021, he executed orders to the Naval Academy Preparatory School to serve as the Executive Officer. Major Magyar holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the United States Naval Academy. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal x2 and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal x2.
