Kurtis J. Swope, PhD

Vice Provost for Finance and Strategy

Professor Kurtis Swope joined the Provost Staff as Vice Provost for Finance and Strategy in June, 2026. He previously served as the Senior Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences from 2021-2026. Dr. Swope graduated magna cum laude from Heidelberg College with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, German, and International Studies in 1994. He completed his Ph.D. in Economics at Indiana University in 2000.

Dr. Swope joined the Economics Department at USNA in August, 2000 and served as Department Chair from 2015-2021. His teaching and research interests include environmental economics, energy economics, experimental economics, and public finance. His research has centered on energy security, land-assembly problems, and the use of laboratory experiments to study human behavior in social dilemmas including the provision of public goods and management of common-property resources.
